Living the Weller Life

Fall Festival

We hosted our fall festival last week and it was a huge success! We had a variety of games for our Members to participate in throughout the day. There was a guess the number of leaves in a jar, an apple toss, pumpkin bowling, a cookie walk, and harvest bingo, where each square was a trait of a person, and the Members had to know the initials of each Member participating. The Dining Services team prepared delicious pumpkin pie bites and apple pieces for our caramel apple bar. I It was so good, we’re ready to have it again!

Honey Farm

Hunter’s Honey Farms is a local farm that produces a large variety of high-quality products. They are responsible for the production of things such as beeswax candles, handcrafted soaps, lip balms, sauces, delicious treats, and so much more. They host individualized tours throughout the year, which share beekeeping practices, candle making, honey extracting, and honey bottling. Our Members have been on a few tours of the farm over the last few years, where they have made their beeswax candles and bottled their boney beer bottles to take home!

Oktoberfest

We had a grand celebration to honor the traditional German festival, Oktoberfest! To ensure that all of our Members could attend in a safe manner, we hosted two of Oktoberfest Beer dinners. Our Dining Services team prepared Heirloom Tomato Soup paired with a Sunking Brewery Sunlight Cream Ale, a Spinach and Prosciutto Maultaschen paired with Schlafly’s Kolsh Ale, and our main entrée was a pan-seared Bratwurst paired with a Samuel Adams Oktoberfest. To conclude our meal, Members indulged in a Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake paired with Pabst Blue Ribbon Hard Coffee! Prost!

One Last Fall Workout

Fall weather in the Midwest is something special and Members at The Stratford love every moment of it! We have spent the last few months sharing our courtyard workouts with you and last week, it was time to do one last workout before the cold temperatures set in.

Pumpkin Pie Social

There is one thing that our Members love to do in the Fall season, pumpkin picking! Beasley’s Orchard is located in Danville, Indiana was the perfect place to find some pie pumpkins! They offer complimentary sugar cookies and cider made from an old family recipe! In 2020, they were awarded the Best Apple Cider Award from the Indiana State Cider Contest sponsored by Purdue. It was a really glorious, Fall day in the beautiful State of Indiana!

Social Programming

Our social programming is a large part of the vibrant lifestyle for our Members. With all of the necessary precautions, our Members have been enjoying a variety of activities on a daily basis, safely. Finding new ways to participate in our themed days, fundraisers, crafts, trivia happy hours, and glorious parties is an honor for the social and activities teams at The Stratford. We still strive to make it possible for our Members to have the opportunity to try something new within the walls of our community, in a safe way.

Mini Walk Happy Hour

To conclude our Active Aging Week celebrations, we hosted our very own Walk to End Alzheimer’s! We had our Members and family members come out to participate in this community walk. Even though we are unable to attend a local area walk this year, missing out on an opportunity to bring together our Members and Team Members for this worthy cause wasn’t an option! The Alzheimer’s Association is near and dear to our hearts so we will continue to support the fight to #ENDALZ!
